Stephen, the first martyr, was chosen as the patron saint of the parish. In 1850 a school and rectory were added, but in 1884 with a parishioner vote of 60-15, it was decided a new church would be built using the French Gothic design.

St. Stephen Church and Rectory is a registered historic building in Hamilton, Ohio, listed in the National Register on 1982-07-29. Located in Hamilton's German Village Historic District, the church building is home to Saint Julie Billiart Catholic Parish, an active parish in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

St. Stephen Church is a Roman Catholic church located in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio. The gothic style building was designed by architects Cudell & Richardson. The current church was built in 1875 and was added into the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
