I'm familiar with Sched 40 and 80 PVC and ABS DWV pipe but not Coex Cell Core. We want to extend current COEX Cell Core 3 inch stormwater runoff drain lines but are not familiar with Cell Core.

Apr 9, 2008 · We do not use PVC drain lines here, but where it is used, foam core seems to be the material of choice for drain lines. But it is not a "pressure" material so it is not used for supply water lines. If it were a problem for you, your specification should have called for scheduler 40 pressure rated piping.

Sep 30, 2017 · I didn't know there were two kinds of Schedule 40 PVC. The wording to me seemed like cell core was something different than Sch 40, and was so eager to install didn't catch it. I decided to relocate WH to an outside utility room after learning that this WH also had an on board heater to prevent freezing.

Feb 6, 2005 · On the east coast Charlotte Pipe and Foundry makes PVC "solid wall" schedule 40 DWV pipe and also PVC "Foam Core" schedule 40 DWV pipe. The contract between the plumbing contractor and the general contractor (builder) states schedule 40 PVC is to be used. Charlotte PVC foam core is what has been installed.

Jan 18, 2024 · With ABS we use sch 40 foam core, that could be a differance between abs and pvc, Ive never heard comment that foam core was better or as good as solid core in drainage applications , lighter , easier to work with and cheaper I would guess are advantages to foam core, might have a degree of safety to it as far as solid core might be more prone to shattering.

The only reason it is used at all is it is Cheaper Easier to work with than Sch 40 Solid DWV.

Oct 6, 2021 · I was planning to use 3” PVC and possibly tie in one of my downspouts. The 3” PVC sold by the big box stores is foam core. The bottom of the trench will start at 6” depth next to the house. Is it ok to use PVC foam core schedule 40 pipe as opposed to solid core? The last 70 feet of the run will be in the woods.

Jan 22, 2024 · ABS used to be solid core when it was introduced. I don't recall when cellular core was introduced, but it was likely in the 70-80s. ABS solid core is currently available in the Seattle area to purchase. Most residential and commercial DWV in our area is Foam Core PVC or ABS. Foam core has been approved for underground / under slab for decades..
