Black Sea Waves Reanalysis | Copernicus Marine Service
The wave reanalysis for the Black Sea is produced with the third generation spectral wave model WAM Cycle 6. The reanalysis is produced on the HPC at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon. The shallow water Black Sea version is implemented on a spherical grid with a spatial resolution of about 2.5 km (1/40° x 1/40°) with 24 directional and 30 frequency bins.

Extreme wind waves in the Black Sea - ScienceDirect
Jan 1, 2020 · The spatial distributions of the maximum waves in the Black Sea provide evidence that favorable conditions for the development of storm waves with significant wave heights of about 12 m may develop in the Black Sea. This means that the real maximum waves can be as high as 18–19 m.
Frontiers | The Black Sea near-past wave climate and its …
Jun 12, 2024 · The Black Sea wave climate is governed by two main modes of variability. The first mode is characterized by waves generated by low pressure along the Russian coasts and high pressure in central-western Europe, resulting in rougher waves in the western basin predominantly oriented N-NE.
Black Sea - Wikipedia
The Black Sea is divided into two depositional basins—the Western Black Sea and Eastern Black Sea—separated by the Mid-Black Sea High, which includes the Andrusov Ridge, Tetyaev High, and Archangelsky High, extending south from the Crimean Peninsula.
A deeper look into the Black Sea’s waves and their variability
Oct 30, 2024 · A new study led by CMCC contributes to a better understanding of the spatiotemporal variability of wave fields in the Black Sea region. In recent years, advancements in numerical modeling techniques coupled with high-resolution atmospheric data have provided valuable insights into the complex dynamics of ocean waves.
