Asuka is the Second Child ('Second Children' in the Japanese versions of NGE), who pilots Evangelion Unit 02. She is from Germany, but with an American father and a half-German, half-Japanese mother. In the Rebuild of Evangelion series of movies, her name is changed to Asuka Langley Shikinami.

Jul 26, 2020 · Overall, shikinami is a lot less self-hating and attention-seeking, and is more competent than soryu. This change was probably made for 2.0 because of the general theme of that movie, which is fanservice. A more self-confident version of asuka is more pleasing to the fans, being less "annoying" and making less mistakes.
