As governed by Utah law, (U.C.A Title 17, Chapter 21), the Garfield County Recorder’s Office records and maintains all documents and maps pertaining to real estate property (real property), military records and mining documents.

The Garfield County Assessor’s Office is responsible for assessing the taxable value of personal and real property in the County. Real Property includes residential, commercial and agricultural land and buildings.

The Garfield County Building Department issues building permits for residential and commercial construction. The office is responsible for reviewing and approving plans for the construction, expansion, repair, modification, removal or demolition of any building or structure.

The Garfield County Office of Tourism works diligently to attract visitors to Garfield County’s world-class destinations. Garfield County provides access to nearly a dozen national/state parks and forest areas.

Panguitch City is the Garfield County seat and is named after the Native American Paiute word meaning “big fish.” Nearby Panguitch Lake is known for having some of the largest rainbow trout in Utah and attracts fishers year round.
