What does Jesus mean by, "Again, I leave the world and go to the Father" (John 16:28)? He is talking about His forthcoming ascension to heaven.

Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Jesus left behind many things to visit this world. First, he left the glory of heaven. We know very little about what heaven looks like. We know it is inhabited by God, his angels, and believers who have died. Revelation describes it as a beautiful place (21:1–22:7). Trying to describe it properly is beyond human language.

We focused on “going” to heaven instead of living on earth as Jesus did—which makes heaven and earth one. It is heaven all the way to heaven. What you choose now is exactly what you choose to be forever.

The Bible clearly warns us of this in Mark 8:36, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses his own soul?” In Mark 10:17-18, we see a man approach Jesus and ask, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”

May 23, 2016 · If Jesus was still in Israel today, He’d have to make us go away, because otherwise we’d all be in Jerusalem waiting in line with our next ticket to hug Him. After Jesus died for our sins and defeated our deaths, He knew He had to leave us behind with that news if it was to spread around the world.

He repeats with emphasis that which in the last verse He stated as believed by them—“It is true. I did come forth from the Father, and came into the world. But what follows from this? Heaven, and not earth, is My home. I leave the world again and return to the Father.”
