Sep 11, 2018 · My dog is on apoquel for allergies (and benadryl). He can take it daily, but I just give it to him when he is scratching. I saw a new vet today and he gave me info on cytopoint, a shot that controls itching and is not an immunosuppressant like apoquel. He said he does not need it while his itching is mild, but it is something I could think about.

I've tried benedryl and even at the correct dose he'll still scratch himself raw, and I've used Tameril-P but I hate it as it makes him very lethargic and I know prednisone is very hard on the internal system.

May 27, 2020 · The vet we saw said it was environmental allergies and prescribed apoquel. His eyes were watering so we added generic Claritin. I tried diet changes and nothing made a difference. After the apoquel his skin cleared up. now, we have a different vet. Our dog has started scratching often lately. The apoquel does not seem to be working very well.

Oct 29, 2024 · Apoquel doesn't work in all cases, but when it does work it provides a lot of relief. We give ours a small dose daily, and it does control itching very well. All medication is expensive, today, including Apoquel. I have medical insurance for ours, so they pay, which really helps.
