GOLF.com on MSNPhil Mickelson’s U.S. Open farewell? USGA weighs in on his futureThe 54-year-old Mickelson has started to confront his golfing mortality. Before last week’s tournament at LIV Virginia, Mickelson also acknowledged that this U.S. Open could be a farewell. “There’s a high likelihood that it will be, but I haven’t really thought about it too much,” Mickelson said last week.
The USGA issued a statement to Channel 11, saying, “The USGA is aware of the congestion experienced yesterday moving fans across the pedestrian bridge over the turnpike, and has made operational adjustments to ease movements between the East and West sides of the course.”
Mickelson made two late double bogeys and missed a 15-foot putt at the last to miss the cut by one in what is likely his final U.S. Open appearance.
