You will escape Donkey Kong’s treasure-filled colon. Because, seriously: Should the star of the brand new (and instantly vital) Nintendo Switch 2 title Donkey Kong Bananza be eating so many golden, gem-covered bananas?

Donkey Kong is one of Nintendo’s most famous characters. The smash hit 1981 arcade game that made the company, kicked off Shigeru Miyamoto’s future of innovation, and introduced the world to Mario, bears Donkey Kong’s name. The big ape is as close to Nintendo’s historic creative heart as you can get if you’re not called Mario.

Donkey Kong Bananza is out today, and the game's credits have now confirmed Nintendo's main new voice actor behind Donkey Kong. Unusually for a Nintendo game, Bananza's credits list out each of the game's voice actors with their specific roles — and right at the top is Kouji Takeda,

Nintendo has explained why Donkey Kong wears clothes in the latest Switch 2 exclusive, Donkey Kong Bananza. For as long as Donkey Kong has been around, he's typically been portrayed completely naked (if a monkey can even be naked), but in the latest installment, the star ape underwent a makeover, in both character design and wardrobe.

Nintendo has released a day one update for Donkey Kong Bananza, bringing the game to Version 1.1.0 and introducing some predictable, but welcome additions and improvements (thanks, Nintendo Everything ).

Signs point to an animated film adaptation, which would fit perfectly with Nintendo’s current strategy.
