The partnership between the Golden State Warriors and former lottery pick Jonathan Kuminga has never felt particularly comfortable for either side.

NBA free agency officially kicked off on Monday evening as the negotiating window opened for eligible players and all teams across the league at 6 p.m. ET. Monday night was relatively quiet, but the first stunners of the new league year came Tuesday morning.

The Warriors traded Dennis Schroder, Lindy Waters, Kyle Anderson, Andrew Wiggins, and a protected first-round pick for Jimmy Butler ahead of the trade deadline. Butler fit in perfectly, and the Warriors had their best stretch of the season with him on the team. That makes it unlikely that they’d flip him in a package for James.
