A map from the Maryland Department of Health showing coronavirus case counts in every ZIP code in the state may be leading people to make poor decisions.
The State of Maryland is now reporting COVID-19 cases by ZIP code. Health officials say they want to be transparent, but that the map could also be misleading.
In fact, most of Maryland and Virginia’s most expensive ZIP codes are Washington suburbs, according to a recent report by the company RealtyHop.
The number of cases in a ZIP code doesn't indicate how likely someone is to catch coronavirus. Areas can have variable numbers of residents, different densities and a range of demographics.
Across North America, the Experian map shows the three wealthiest areas in each state by ZIP code, including how many tax returns were filed from that area and how much the average income is.
