Mayor Karen Bass said Sunday that Los Angeles does not need National Guard troops to bolster city police amid protests against raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, despite violent incidents.

Governor Newsom criticizes Trump's proposed cuts to public safety funding, highlighting the potential harms to community security and emergency response.

Newsom is expressing unambiguous solidarity with the undocumented immigration population in his state.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom had sued Trump in an attempt to block the deployment of federal troops in the city, which Newsom has called a “serious breach of state sovereignty.”

Elected officials, as well as social media influencers, had wide-ranging opinions of the governor’s prime time address warning that democracy is in danger.
