Antony Blinken, a longtime aide to Joe Biden and former deputy Secretary of State, has been confirmed by the Senate to be America's next top diplomat.

Antony Blinken was confirmed as secretary of State on Tuesday, taking the reins of U.S. foreign policy amid major global challenges and following years of turmoil at the State Department.

Blinken served as deputy secretary of state and deputy national security adviser under President Barack Obama. The announcement came along with a number of other national security picks.
