The Reef deposit is located near the Dells of the Eau Claire, outside Wausau, according to the DNR.The location was first explored in the 1970s and 1980s and is thought to contain gold.

Last year, the DNR announced the discovery of gold grains and small gold deposits up near Lake Vermillion. But that's not the only area to find gold in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
