When a small bridge in western Switzerland collapsed 2,000 years ago, the bodies of 20 people, three cows and two horses became entangled in the wreckage.
The book on which it was based, “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café,” is set in Alabama and it was written by Birmingham native Fannie Flagg. The movie was filmed, however, in Georgia.
The Green Bridge will be closed starting Friday at 8 p.m. and will reopen Monday, May 3, at 5 a.m. Advertisement The bridge is getting repairs to its concrete and steel components.
