I just don’t want that Silent Mode icon in there. It’s ugly and, for me, unnecessary. I’m the kind of iPhone user who also hates seeing the battery percentage on the battery icon.

Under "Silent Mode," toggle off the switch next to Show in Status Bar. That's all there is to it. The silent indicator will no longer appear in the status bar, even when Silent mode is active.
