BISBEE, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Cochise County Board of Supervisors have voted to select the location for the new county jail.

During the original all-mail election in May 2023, 52% of Cochise County residents voted to support a 25-year half-cent excise tax for a new jail.

A Superior Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging Cochise County’s plans to hold a new jail district election, clearing the way for voters to decide on a proposed sales tax this November.

The court concluded that holding a new Jail District excise tax election is the most efficient solution, affirming the authority of the Cochise County Board of Supervisors.
