Pasco County has lifted its mandatory evacuation order for Zone A that was issued due to Hurricane Helene.

The Pasco County Schools Superintendent kept schools open on Wednesday despite a mandatory hurricane evacuation for part of the county.

Hernando County, located just to the north of Pasco and home to around 194,000 residents, has also issued mandatory evacuation orders for certain residents.

Despite mandatory evacuation orders in coastal Pasco County, some residents are choosing to stay in their homes. As of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, the number of residents in county shelters reached 564.

Idalia became a hurricane on August 29 as it intensified from a tropical storm while on a path toward Florida's Gulf Coast.
