New York will also give pregnant mothers 20 extra hours of paid time off, becoming the first state to do so, Hochul announced this week. That policy will begin January 1.

In New York, Medicaid enrollment levels are at an all-time high — 7.9 million as of April 2023 according to the state Department of Health, the state’s Medicaid administrator.
