The Department of Defense is expanding a militarized zone along the southern U.S. border. Troops are authorized to detain migrants for prosecution on charges of trespassing in a national defense area.

This marks the third National Defense Area to be established on the southern border of the U.S., and joins over 200 miles monitored by a federal taskforce created in March.
