In parts of British Columbia, the dominant tick is Ixodes pacificus, also known as the western blacklegged tick.
Two types of blacklegged ticks carry these diseases: Ixodes scapularis, also called a deer tick, is found in several parts of Canada, especially Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
