The Israeli army says two rockets have been fired from Syria into open areas in the Israel-controlled Golan Heights.

Israel has carried out its first airstrikes in Syria in nearly a month, saying it hit weapons belonging to the government in retaliation for the firing of two projectiles towards Israel.

Israel said it held the Syrian president responsible after projectiles were fired into the occupied Golan Heights from Syria.
