Governor Ron DeSantis passed a bill to formally adopt the "Gulf of America" as an official designation, placing the Trump administration's rebranding in state agencies and public school classrooms.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed two bills into law Tuesday to rename the "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America" on state agencies and in public school classrooms.

One of the bills change dozens of state laws to reflect the change. The other mandates that agencies update “geographic materials” as well as school instructional materials to include the new name.

That big body of water to the state's left is officially the Gulf of America in Florida now that Gov. Ron DeSantis has approved the changes.

The dispute stems from AP's decision not to follow an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico, although AP style does cite Trump's wish that it be called the Gulf of America.
