GIRDWOOD, Alaska (AP) — Authorities in Alaska said they would attempt Thursday to reach the site of an avalanche that trapped three skiers, who were believed to have died after being buried in snow.
The avalanche happened Tuesday afternoon in the Chugach Mountains near Girdwood, a small resort town about 40 miles southeast of Anchorage, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety.
The three missing adults had flown by helicopter to the snowy mountain range for skiing, known as heli-skiing, near the resort town of Girdwood, the Alaska State Troopers said in a news release.
