Abt R8 GTR – Click above for high-res image gallery. We got our first peek at Abt’s R8 GTR late last year, but like with many cars, it was a whole different experience to see it in person.

German tuner PPI Automotive dropped cloth on their PPI Razor GTR at the 2009 Top Marques show in Monaco. The razor-sharp 580 HP tuned Audi R8 sports numbers that beat the R8 5.2 V10.

The Audi R8 V10 becomes the Abt R8 GT R by way of losing 220 pounds, gaining 95 hp (now 620 hp), and losing seven tenths in the sprint to 60 mph (Abt claims 3.2 seconds).

I was looking for a track car and compared the Audi R8 V-10 to a Nissan GTR, Corvette ZR1 and Ferrari F430. The Audi is easily dead last. For almost 150k this car fails to deliver in any category.

Instead of the series-standard 525HP (386 kW), the 5.2 FSI in the ABT R8 GT R provides a massive 620HP (456 kW), according to official specs.

At the same time, the R8’s 1,580kg kerb weight has been reduced by more than 250kg, enabling the Razor GTR to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 332km/h.
