Torrential rain and flash flooding led to dramatic rescues in New Jersey as Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency.

The department says it received almost 200 calls to pick up fallen people who weren't hurt in the first half of 2025.

Crews from South Metro, West Metro Fire Rescue, West Douglas Fire, and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office have responded to the fire. South Metro said the fire is burning to the southwest at a moderate rate. The fuels that it's burning in are heavy timber, along with brush and scrub oak, fire officials said.

"No names will be released until proper identification has been made and family has been notified," the sheriff's office said.
