The Eighth Ward’s City Council seat has been vacant since February, when Councilmember Trayon White was expelled after his arrest on federal corruption charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Now, voters in southeast Washington will choose between four Democrats vying to represent them—including Mr. White himself.

The polls are closed and election results are coming in for the Public Service Commission in Georgia. Keisha Waites and Peter Hubbard were in Tuesday’s runoff seeking to win the Democratic nomination for District 3 on the PSC. The winner will face incumbent Republican Fitz Johnson in the November election.

Plans — from new voting machines to even more new voting laws — are already underway as a special Republican-dominated legislative committee met for the first time Tuesday.
