The first principal at Booker T Washington High School, Ellis Walker Woods, intentionally hired alumni to come back and teach. That legacy is still going strong more than 100 years later.

Booker T. Washington High School on the west side of Atlanta is celebrating its 100th birthday. It was named after the activist and educator who was born into slavery. It opened Sept. 24, 1924.
