The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth will celebrate 50 years from Oct. 4-8 with free admission to its special collection, guided tours and film screenings.

On October 4, 1972, Fort Worth made a splash on the world art scene with the debut of the Kimbell Art Museum, the result of a generous gift from entrepreneur and philanthropist Kay Kimbell.

The Kimbell’s newly acquired statue, “Standing Figure Holding a Were-Jaguar Baby, Olmec, Mexico,” c. 900–300 B.C., jade, moved into its new home Dec. 15 at the museum’s Renzo Piano Pavilion.
