2 States is a happy film (with measured anguish). Romance in cross-cultural or even cross-border situations isn't new to Bollywood. What makes 2 States work is the simple narrative told humorously.

In 2 States, Revathy played Alia Bhatt’s mother and they belonged to a Tamil family. Apparently, the Telugu remake will be about a Telugu boy falling head over heels for a girl from Kolkata.

The movie is based on the 2009 novel ‘’2 States: The Story of My Marriage’’ written by Chetan Bhagat. There are many significant scenes in the film which would be shot abroad.
