The Skating Club of Boston, the local organizer for ISU World Figure Skating Championships, lost loved ones in the Jan. 29 plane crash in Washington, D.C.

The World Figure Skating Championships in the year before the Olympics carry added importance. For American skaters, there's even more significance given these worlds are at home in Boston. The U.S. hosts worlds for the first time since 2016 and for the first time in the year before the Olympics since 2009.

The championships come about two months since 6 people with ties to the Skating Club of Boston were killed in midair collision in Washington D.C. The President of the International Skating Union says the crash victims will be honored on Wednesday.
