Repairs began Thursday after staff assessed the damage from Hurricane Milton. Airport CEO and President Rick Piccolo said that despite the two areas of roof damage, he was working toward having repairs finished by the end of the week so flights could resume by Saturday afternoon.

Hurricane Milton made landfall on Siesta Key just before 8:30 pm Wednesday evening as the Category 3 storm continued lashing the Gulf Coast with heavy rains, whipping winds while spinning off a string of tornadoes across much of the peninsula.
