The Bombers left their bats in the Bronx this weekend.
Max Fried, who is currently the second-favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award behind Tarik Skubal, will get the ball, looking for his first win against the Red Sox as a member of the Yankees. Fried has been sensational in his first season with the Bronx Bombers. The former Brave is 9-1 with a 1.84 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a .198 batting average against.
While not the best of buddies prior to uniting on the Yankees, the two knew each other through a mutual friend, Lucas Giolito. The Red Sox starter played high school ball with Fried at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles and shared a White Sox clubhouse with Rodón from 2016-2021.
Max Fried’s terrific start does not need any qualifiers. But when the Yankees have needed him the most — coming off a loss — he has been even better.
