A wild trade proposal sends Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith to the New York Giants in exchange for a player and picks.

Smith's current contract — which expires after the 2025 season — has an average per-year value of $25 million, which ranks 19th in the NFL. His cap hit is $44.5 million next season, the largest of his three-year deal, which accounts for 15.8 percent of the Seahawks' total cap.

"Smith doesn't inspire a boatload of enthusiasm from fans, and headed into the final year of his contract with a cap hit of $44.5 million, the offseason will likely feature at least some drama involving the 34-year-old."

The biggest common denominator over this span has been well-traveled quarterback Geno Smith. CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr recently penned a piece explaining what each of the league’s 32 teams needed to improve on in one area this offseason. For the Seahawks, he explained why he felt the team needs to find a long-term successor to Smith.

If the Seahawks and Geno Smith can’t agree on an extension early this offseason, Las Vegas would seem to be logical trade option now that Carroll is there. The Raiders need a QB and Carroll has an affinity for Smith, once calling him one of his all-time favorite players.
