Apple has revamped multitasking and productivity in iPadOS 26 and having used it for two days, it's already shown these four things that Google needs to add to Android.

Google's cleaning up its Wallpaper & style app with a new Wallpaper Studio section in Android 16 APR1's latest beta.

Android 16 now features iOS-style live notifications on the lock screen for real-time updates and Google’s new Material 3 Expressive design language. There are new capabilities for safeguarding against theft and scams, along with an updated advanced protection mode to maintain security and privacy for public figures.

Android 16 introduces the most comprehensive set of safety features and promises to take the tablet experience into the realm of meaningful computing.

Back at Google I/O, Google announced that it was indeed making a desktop mode or desktop windowing feature for Android 16 that would allow you to connect a phone to a display and get a desktop-like experience.

That projection was correct, as Google has officially confirmed that the latest version of its OS is set to drop today. In a post yesterday evening on X, the official Android Developers account simply said,

Like other recent Android updates, there aren't many changes bundled into this version. Many of the most interesting changes are coming later this year. Despite the light feature set at launch, there are a few things of note.
