A NASA satellite that’s been orbiting as space junk since 1967, Relay 2, emitted an unexpected, powerful radio burst that astronomers initially struggled to explain.

The data James and his colleagues were looking at came from the ASKAP radio telescope, an array of 36 dish antennas in Wajarri Yamaji Country, each about three stories tall.
