Installing WordPad in Windows 11 is safe because you’re using official Microsoft files. However, you should be aware that WordPad won’t receive any feature or security updates going forward.

Microsoft is adding bold, italics, even markdown and hyperlinks to the Windows Notepad app, making it look more and more like the older, defunct WordPad application.

But its last substantial update came in Windows 7, when it picked up the then-new ribbon interface introduced in Office 2007. That version is still available in Windows 11, with few modifications.
