As Veterans Day approaches, a church is helping those who served in combat with a three-day retreat.

Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton held its last Veterans Day concert, a tradition for more than 20 years. The 148-year-old church is closing in December.

The community gathered at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois on Tuesday night to welcome home veterans returning to the Heartland from their day in Washington, D.C.

Every year for the past 44 years, the Historic St. John’s Church has presented a pre-Veterans Day weekend reenactment of the one of the most famous speeches in history.
