For the fifth time, the American president has threatened Russia with economic sanctions. The first four times, Trump failed to follow through.

U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly said during his campaign he would be able to end the war between Russia and Ukraine “in 24 hours” upon taking office.

“A turning point regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine is coming,” said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who is behind a proposal to impose “bone-crushing” tariffs on Russian exports. “For months, President Trump tried to entice Putin to the peace table. He has left the door open regarding Russia. That door is about to close,” he added.

"We are very unhappy, I am, with Russia," Mr. Trump said Monday while in a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made more false claims during his speech at the BRICS summit. He talked about an "economic advantage" of BRICS over the G7, according to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

It remains to be seen just how lasting and severe President Donald Trump’s turn against Vladimir Putin will be. Trump has criticized the Russian president in unprecedented terms in recent days and signaled he’ll send vital weapons to Ukraine.
