Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier asked the Supreme Court on Monday to pause a lower court’s order blocking a state law that makes it a misdemeanor for an illegal immigrant to be present in the Sunshine State.

The Florida Attorney General is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the state to enforce a new immigration law while lower courts decide whether the law is constitutional

Immigrant advocates said the move creates a whole new form of detention outside the scope of the federal government.
