President Trump plans to hike tariffs on Canadian goods to 35%
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said in a letter that he will raise taxes on many imported goods from Canada to 35%, deepening a rift between two North American countries that have suffered a debilitating blow to their decades-old alliance.

US President Donald Trump has announced that all imports from Canada will have a 35% tariff as of August 1. He sent a letter to the country’s president, Mark Carney, informing him of the new rate, which has also been posted on his Truth Social account.
The president said the blanket 35% would be on top of tariffs on certain sectors. That’s higher than the previous 25% rate.
The prime minister pledges to diversify its trading partners away from the US and prioritise the use of Canadian steel.
