Tower Bridge has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982, due to its significance to transportation in Northern California and the Sacramento landscape.

On the west side of the bridge is the Tower Bridge Gateway and on the east side is Sacramento’s Capitol Mall. Right in the middle is the 737-foot-long Highway 275.

Since 1935, the Tower Bridge has served as the gateway to the capital city and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, but today it serves as an example of a rare bridge lifting system in the California.
