To the editor: Listening to [Tuesday] night’s budget work session, it seems the district saved just over 2% of its budget by closing 3½ schools. Two cents of every dollar.

The creation of St. George’s school system takes away funding from EBR schools and students. Funding provided to EBR schools will decrease tremendously due to St. George’s school system.

The citizens of St. George should consider giving back to their community before breaking from it.

One big reason for its revenue shortfall is the state voucher program, which allows students to use public school money to pay for private school.
