Seventy percent of the damage was in the northwestern quadrant of Polk County, he said. Of the properties assessed for damage, 38 were destroyed and 422 suffered major damage, 1,300 had minor damage and in all, 5,300 properties were affected by the Milton.

Most tolls were reinstated Oct. 14. Tolls are still suspended for several counties in central & west central Florida after Hurricane Milton landfall.

After Hurricane Milton, more than 100 pets were found in the streets of Polk County and are now taken in by animal control. Now, the Polk County Sheriff's Office is looking to reunite the pets with their owners.

In addition to postponed football games having to be rescheduled, the county meets and volleyball district tournaments have had to be adjusted.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says it found 44 dogs and 32 cats during the hurricane last week. It's hoping to reunite them with owners.
