Hamlin opened its title defense by rolling past Hill City in the opening round of the state Class A boys basketball tourney.

The Comets held an early lead and hung tough, before coming up short against No. 2 seed Hamlin in the state semifinals on Friday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.

The Comets (21-2) started their Class A state tournament run with a nice 76-53 victory over Clark/Willow Lake on Thursday inside of the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.

The Summit League asked Omaha not to beat up any trash cans at the Denny Sanford Premier Center, so the team brought their own.

The Hawks were unable to catch up with St. Thomas, which dropped 52 points in the second half to beat UND 85-69 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
