A lawsuit filed by the school district Wednesday adds to doubts about the railroad's commitment after plans for a student wellness center stalled. “I think a lot of empty promises were made,” said lifelong resident Krissy Ferguson.

The school district of East Palestine, Ohio, the site of a fiery 2023 train derailment, sued Norfolk Southern Corp. on Wednesday and said the company hasn’t followed through on its promises to properly address the fallout.

The superintendent said Norfolk Southern has broken its promises and “repeatedly failed” to compensate the school district.
