In the pursuit of a better alternative, researchers from Drexel University in Philadelphia and Princeton University have designed a new 2D map that is flat and centered around each pole.

A "radically different" flat map of the Earth has been produced by scientists who say it is more accurate than any previous 2D models that came before.
