The trail runs alongside the Pecatonica River, which winds for 90 miles through the county and right through Darlington. The city hosts a Canoe Festival every June to celebrate the river.

ROCKFORD — Two years ago, optimism was high that the Pecatonica Prairie Path would get a $5 million upgrade, thanks to an Illinois Department of Transportation grant.

The park district would be working from Meridian Rd. to Downtown Rockford which is a 3 mile stretch. The current trail starts West of Pecatonica and goes through Winnebago ending at Meridian Rd.
