The Blank Park Zoo is about to undergo a prehistoric transformation.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Blank Park Zoo is taking a prehistoric turn with a temporary name change to Dino Park Zoo, featuring 17 dinosaur animatronics that roar, move and breathe like the real thing.

There are 23 animatronic dinosaurs in total that were all designed and built by an expert paleontologist to both look and sound like the real thing.

The exhibit, which opened at the zoo May 17 and runs through Sept. 1, scatters more than two dozen "larger-than-life" dinosaur animatronics throughout the zoo's campus for guests.
