After days of sweltering, residents of Massachusetts are in for a "fantastic summer afternoon," National Weather Service forecasters wrote.

Early on Thursday morning the National Weather Service's Lake Charles office announced that it would be expanding the flash flood warning that previously went as far west as Vermillion Parish to include Calcasieu, Cameron, Allen, Jefferson Davis and Beauregard parishes. The watch is in effect from 7 a.m. on Thursday to 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The National Weather Service is calling for a partly sunny Friday with a high near 92 degrees. The forecast calls for 5 to 10 mph winds with gusts as high as 17 mph. There is a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms and rain every day this weekend. Saturday will see a high near 92 and Sunday a high near 94; both days could see some breeze.

Michigan residents may want to plan their beach day on Sunday, July 20, as heavy rain, thunderstorms are predicted to develop on Saturday, July 19.

Longmont should see cloudy, rainy highs in the mid-90s today, according to the National Weather Service. Today’s forecast calls for a partly sunny high of 93 and an overnight low of 62, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Boulder should see cloudy, rainy highs in the low-90s today, according to the National Weather Service. Today’s forecast calls for a partly sunny high of 92 and an overnight low of 63, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

The Chicago area forecast Friday calls for a mostly sunny and dry day, with highs in the low 80s to upper 70s. But by tonight, increasing humidity and a vortex of storms developing over the northern plains will bring much muggier conditions and the chance for severe weather Saturday.

Houston faces mixed weather, with potential downpours and minor flooding, followed by a warm-up to possibly triple-digit temperatures.

Pleasant Friday conditions will give way to unsettled weather as temperatures climb toward the the 90s ahead of a cold front bringing relief early next week.
